The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Uasin Gishu branch has suspended a strike which had been scheduled for Tuesday, next week.
According to the Uasin Gishu County Public Service Board (PSB) chairman Joseph Tanui, the move is aimed at paving way for negotiations with the KNUN officials.
"The county government shall honour the final outcome of the Industrial dispute between KNUN and the County government currently being handled by the Ministry of Labour," said Tanui after meeting KNUN officials.
Speaking to journalists at the county headquarters on Friday, Tanui noted that the county will encourage a consultative forum in a bid to meet the health workers' needs.
"The county government shall facilitate a consultative meeting within one month with the Nurses' Union on promotion and career progression, training and development, disciplinary, internal transfers, nurses shortage pension and retirement," he added.
On their part, the Nurses' Union officials led by their secretary Beatrice Kariuki stated that the strike has been suspended for sixty days to give room for negotiations with the County Government of Uasin Gishu.
“We shall not strike as from 19th. We shall be on duty to serve the people of Uasin Gishu," she said.
