Kalonzo fell-out with Mutua after the governor ditched the Wiper Party over what he termed as discrimination and unequal opportunities.

Governor Mutua’s move to ditch the party angered Kalonzo who called him a betrayer.

Since their fall-out in 2013, the two leaders have not been seeing eye to eye even as speculations of their reconciling rages on.

Governor Mutua has been quoted branding Kalonzo as ‘old school politician’ who has done nothing for the Kamba community for the many years he has been in government.

On the other hand, Kalonzo has been quoted referring to Mutua as a betrayer who betrayed his political trust.

The two Kamba leaders have often traded ugly political barbs in public.

On February 14, 2018 during an interview on Radio Jambo, Mutua hit out at Kalonzo openly calling him a traitor.

Governor Mutua was reacting after the former Vice President skipped NASA leader Raila Odinga’s swearing in as the People’s President on January 30, at Uhuru Park in Nairobi.

He claimed that Kalonzo’s decision to skip the NASA flagbearer's inauguration which the government had termed illegal portrayed Kamba's as traitors and cowards.

“Wakamba ni watu wa msimamo. Yale Kalonzo alifanya hiyo siku ni yeye, sio sisi. Tunamjua kwa sababu sio mara ya kwanza. Kiongozi lazima awe na msimamo kufa kupona.Lazima awe mstari wa mbele kwa hivyo tusidharauliwe kama wakamba,” Governor Mutua said during the radio interview.

Kalonzo was ridiculed for skipping Raila’s swearing-in with the former Prime Minister's allies labeling him a coward.

Amani National Congress (ANC) Party leader Musalia Mudavadi and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula also skipped the swearing.

Kalonzo later defended his decision to skip the swearing-in claiming that Mudavadi, Wetangula and himself had been put under house arrest.
