He may be down, but not out. And as the 2022 political contest slowly gains momentum, former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar may play a leading role in the supremacy battle between Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Omar who is one of the most influential politicians in Mombasa and the Coast region in general, has in the past few months maintained low political profile. His mission? A mystery. He is however expected to make a comeback at the 'right time'.
When he officially joined Jubilee Party in 2017 after ditching Wiper Party where he served as Secretary General, Omar gave the DP a rare praise saying he was the only person who called and condoled him when he lost the Mombasa gubernatorial race. Going by that, the DP and Omar are said to be close political friends. So what next for the duo?
With Dr Ruto slowly edging out Raila in the Coast region, the addition of Omar will no doubt deal the former Premier a blow in his bid to regain the control of the region.
At his best, Omar is no joke in the Coast politics. His return will no doubt shake-up the region's political matrix and the Ruto-Raila duel will not be an exception.
