A woman has threatened to take Thika Level 5 Hospital to court for misdiagnosing her as HIV positive.
Ann Wambui who has been taking Antiretroviral (ARV) drugs for the management of HIV for two years, claims results from an HIV test she took at the hospital indicated that she was positive.
The hospital allegedly insisted for Wambui to take the ARV drugs despite several tests conducted later on showing that she was negative.
The journey for Wambui has been painful as at one point she contemplated committing suicide.
"At one time I mixed medicine meant to kill the rats so that I can drink it (Wakati nilikuja hapa nilichukua dawa ya panya, nikaikoroga nikunywe)," Wambui told NTV.
Wambui has now demanded Thika Level 5 Hospital to admit to wrongful diagnose to her, failure to which she will proceed to the court.
A letter from Ann's advocate revealed that the hospital denied her a second test and threatened to have her arrested if she did not take the ARV drugs.
Thika Level 5 Hospital has been given 14 days to respond to the letter from Ann's advocates or risk being sued.
A report by NTV highlighted that the Ministry of Health's policy guiding the process of HIV screening and testing may be reviewed to match up to the international standards following the lawsuit.
