Deputy President (DP) William Ruto has received backing from a section of Church leaders in Nyanza, after an alleged plot against his life alleged to be hatched by some senior government officials.
Addressing members of the press in Kisumu on Wednesday after a consultative meeting, the Church leaders led by Professor John Kodia of Bondo Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) said the threats against the DPs life must be taken seriously.
“If the DP is saying his life is in danger, what about other Kenyans like us?” asked the clergyman.
“This matter should be investigated thoroughly so that we know who wants to kill him. We must also know whether it is just politics. But if it is true that someone wants to kill him, proper investigations must be carried out,” he insisted.
Professor John Kodia said that in the past, many Kenyans have come out to say that their life is in danger, only to be killed giving an example of the late businessman Jacob Juma.
He said that every leader in this Country should be free to go about his/her duties of serving Kenyans with threats to one’s life.
A section of senior government officials among them four cabinet Secretaries have been accused of allegedly plotting to kill the DP. They have denied the allegations.
