Two pupils from Oloika Primary School have been confirmed dead while thirty-five others sustained injuries following a tragic road accident.
According to police reports, the Thursday accident occurred in Kamukuru area along the busy Magadi-Kiserian road in Kajiado County.
The reports also indicate that the driver of the school bus lost control before the vehicle veered off the road and overturned.
Kajiado West Sub-County Commissioner Mr Wiliam Kakimoni said the school bus had 46 students and four teachers on board when the accident occurred.
Among the pupils who perished in the accident is a class eight student who died on the spot while the other victim, a standard five pupil, was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Magadi Public Hospital, Citizen Digital reports.
Police further stated that 35 pupils were taken to the hospital with various levels of injuries but were discharged. However, four of them were admitted with their conditions being listed as fair and stable.
This comes amid calls by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) for drivers to be extra cautious to curb the ever-rising cases of road accidents.
As documented by the NTSA, careless driving under the influence of alcohol remains the biggest contributor to cases of road carnages, especially for Public Service Vehicles (PSVs).
