Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i has dominated headlines since last week, with details emerging that a section of MPs allied to DP William Ruto are crafting an impeachment motion against him.
Belgut MP Nelson Koech and his Kiharu counterpart Ndindi Nyoro, are said to be preparing onslaught against the minister, who is serving his 6th in cabinet.
Already, Governor John Nyagarama has warned MPs against impeaching Dr Matiang'i, adding that there is a wider scheme to frustrate his delivery due to politics.
"Dr Matiang'i has delivered in all the ministeries he has served. MPs should stop politicising the fake gold scandal. Let investigations be carried out by authorities. Anything beyond that is witch hunt and won't be accepted," he said in a statement.
At Nairobi, County MP Jerusha Momanyi also asked politicians to allow investigations to be carried out even as Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka said the calls are a wider scheme by those who fear a possible Matiang'i Presidency.
"There are people fearing Matiang'i could be Uhuru's surprise candidate for 2022. They are now panicking. That's why some of them are talking about impeachment," he said.
But even with the defense, MPs from Nyamira have remained mum over the matter. Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango), Ben Momanyi (Borabu), Shadrack Mose (Kitutu Masaba) and Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango), are yet to address the matter.
While three of them supports Dr William Ruto's 2022 bid, MP Ben Momanyi has however narrowed hos focus to Governor John Nyagarama succession. He is yet to align himself to any camp although he's a second time wiper MP.
But Dr Matiang'i has never been their favourite since his elevation. In an interview with one of the legilators, they accuse the minister of undermining them.
"He just doesn't respect us. He comes to ones jurisdictions but never informs you. How can you work with such a person? It's absolutely impossible," he said in confidence.
