Garissa Township MP Aden Duale is a man on the spot after MPs once again failed to pass the two-thirds gender parity Bill.
As the leader of Majority in the National Assembly, Duale had tabled the Bill and received backing from top politicians across the divide.
With intense lobbying and appeal from President Uhuru Kenyatta, opposition leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka, the MPs did not pass the Bill on Wednesday for lack of quorum.
According to political analyst Peter Ngure, failure by MPs to approve the two thirds Bill could hamper Duale’s future political career.
Ngure says that as Majority leader, Duale could be blamed if the gender Bill fails to see the light of the day.
“It was shocking that the MPs once again failed to approve the gender Bill despite the lobbying and attention it received;” the analyst said on Thursday.
Ngure observed that Duale and parliament leadership must go to the drawing board in the push to convince MPs to pass the Bill.
