The varsity’s council has appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Affairs Prof Alexander Kahi in an acting capacity.

A source at the institution said Kahi will be in an acting capacity until internal investigations on several scandals touching on Mwonya are concluded.

The VC has been facing accusations of running down the institution for lacking managerial skills as well as allowing corrupt dealings.

An electric fence project, a gate that remains a skeleton and a project at Ngongongeri in Njoro are some of the things that university stakeholders said had been used to siphon the varsity’s money.

Also, another hot potato for the embattled VC is the issue of ‘certain students who did not qualify for JAB admission being admitted in a scandalous scheme which she was aware of’, a lecturer at the Njoro-based institution said.
