Embakasi North MP James Mwangi Gakuya has been freed on Sh 5 Million bond with surety of similar amount and alternative cash bail of Sh 2 Million after pleading not guilty to corruption charges.
The MP alongside eight (8) other officials of the Embakasi North Constituency Development Fund (CDF) had been arraigned in court and charged with embezzling constituency money amounting to 39.8 Million.
While releasing the MP and the co-accused persons, Anti-corruption Magistrate Felix Kombo ordered the Jubilee lawmaker to deposit his passport in court.
The MP was also ordered not to visit the CDF offices unless in company of a police officer.
The court further ordered the MP not to make contact with any witnesses lined up to testify in the case.
The pre-trial has been set for Tuesday next week.
Gakuya was arrested on Wednesday by Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) detectives and spent the night in police cells.
