You are green with envy watching friends and colleagues scale the ladder of success as you grumble and mark time.

How many times have you resolved to start an online business as a side hustle?   If you are not willing to take up self-discipline, the ultimate payback deal of running an online business as a side hustle remains a pipe dream.

“I might lose the capital investment,” you could argue but, how would you know it won’t work out yet you haven’t started?

If you have this kind of fear, the biggest step is self-evaluating yourself and identifying your weak points. Here is how you conduct a proper self-evaluation and get started:

1. Admit you don’t know

The first step towards realising your goal in starting a side hustle is by admitting that you don’t know how small business entrepreneurship works.

With this self-admission, this is the way you begin learning how to start and run a small business by the side or what is commonly known as a side hustle.

2. Re-assess your values

Values are an important aspect in realising what you are cut out for and self-discipline is your entry point into setting up and running a small business as a side hustle.

3. Eliminate sideshow distractions

Have you realised that your progress has been derailing? It could be a result of your number one enemy which is you entertaining sideshows.

Sideshows often drift you off from your set goals. This is a problem that stems from the inner being of a person and you should deal with it by desisting from participating in all sideshow engagements.

4. Study and understand the side hustle

With a proper understanding of the venture you want to engage in by the side, you get more ideas of how to pull it off and make it as profitable as it could be.

You also understand its strength and its downside which is an important aspect for any entrepreneur, whether established or budding.

5. Seize the available opportunity

Setting up and running a small business is not as hard as you imagine it to be; you can pull it off!  Start with minimum requirements and build up the product/service brand.

In addition, as you self-evaluate yourself, take note of the things you can change in life and the ones that can’t be changed,  for example, you cannot change the nature of your body but you can change the mind to make self-discipline top priority.
