The 2017 general elections came with a lot of surprises as people perceived to be political green horns, landed leadership positions.
One of such is Kuria East Member of Parliament (MP) Marwa Kitayama who withered the ODM wave in Migori County.
Vying on the ruling Jubilee Party ticket, Kitayama defeated Wilson Marwa and ODM’s Rahab Robi to succeed the previous MP Shadrack Manga who quit elective politics due to old age.
The MP went to Kileleshwa Primary School, Technical High School in Nairobi, Mombasa Polytechnic and the University of Nairobi among other institutions between 1975 and 2015.
He holds various academic credentials, among them Master of Arts in Construction Management and Bachelor of Construction Management.
That explains why the Suna East legislature once worked as foreman. He was a plant foreman at Konoike Construction Company between 1989 and 1990, before serving as site foreman at the Mori engineering services between 1990 and 1994.
Before then, the MP was a baker at Family Bakery in 1988, long before thoughts of leading the Kuria East constituency crossed his mind.
Before being elected into office last year, he was the Director, Head of Technical Committee at the Kenya Pipeline Company Limited.
He held the position since 2013.
