Silas Tiren, the Moiben Member of Parliament is no doubt a popular figure among farmers in the North Rift region.

This is due to the fact that he has been in the forefront speaking out on farmers issues.

His association with farmers that make a huge population in the region is arguably what propelled him to the leadership position in 2013 and also reelection in 2017.

Tiren has been able to maintain a low profile and freely mingle with farmers despite his leadership position.

However, as we head to the 2022 general elections, things don’t look good for the two-time legislator. His close association with the Baringo Senator Gideon Moi might just be the beginning of his fall.

Tiren, elected on a Jubilee ticket has of late been seen frequently with the son to the retired President Daniel Moi, the latest being a visit to opposition chief Raila Odinga’s backyard, Homabay.

Moiben constituency is in Uasin Gishu, the home county to Deputy President William Ruto who is eying the top seat in 2022. Senator Moi is seen as DP Ruto’s biggest threat to his presidential ambition and anyone associating with him will most likely be considered an enemy to the man from Sugoi.

Truth be told, DP Ruto is undisputed Kalenjin king and anyone going against him, including Tiren is merely digging his political grave.

It is not yet clear whether Tiren’s closeness with Senator Moi is an endorsement to his presidential ambitions, but the matter of fact remains that as long as he’s seen as an enemy to DP Ruto, his competitors will take advantage of this and he will have it turf retaining his seat in 2022.
