Journalists in Kisumu have given a County minister 14 days to apologise to them.
Members of the press are demanding an apology, after a Tuesday morning incident, where the Chief Executive Member (CEC) for Tourism, Youth and Sports Ms Achie Alai Ojany termed questions about governor Anyang' Nyong’o's numerous trips abroad as silly.
The journalists wanted to know the value of the County Chief’s trips abroad to residents of the Lakeside County.
Led by Kisumu Journalists Network (KJN) Chairman Mr. Dickson Odhiambo, the journalists have given the CEC a 14-day ultimatum to apologise, or face the press men and women’s wrath.
“We are giving the minister 14 days to apologise to us or we will be taking stern measures against her. Some of the measures include not covering her functions,” said the chairman.
The chairman said journalists have a right to carry out their duties without intimidation from any quarter.
On Tuesday, journalists from various media houses in Kisumu had gone to the county for a briefing.
The briefing was going on well, until one journalist sought an explanation of how Governor Nyong’o's numerous trips abroad are adding value to the lives of residents.
Ms Alai who was leading the briefing seemed not to like the question. She termed the question as silly and walked out on the stunned journalists.
