A section of Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Elgeyo Marakwet county has insisted that planned construction of Kimwarer and Arror dams must continue.
This is despite the ongoing probe over alleged corruption in the multi-billion projects.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly Speaker Kiplagat Sabulei said they had agreed to ensure the projects continue.
The resolution was reached following a meeting of the leaders at an Eldoret hotel on Saturday.
"We agreed unanimously that the pending investigations in the financial conduct of the projects should not be a brooding ground for cancellation of the dams," reads part of the Assembly Speaker's Facebook post.
The leaders also appealed to the National Lands Commission (NLC) to hasten the process of the compensation of the affected families so as to pave way for the construction to commence as soon as possible on the proposed sites.
In the meeting, they also called upon the county residents to speak in one voice in holding the national government accountable to them for a promise to initiate water projects in the county.
"We appeal to all Elgeyo Marakwet County residents to remain united in this issue and to demand their rightful entitlement for completion of the projects," noted Sabulei in the post.
