More leaders from Kisii County have reacted after it emerged that the extension of SGR line from Naivasha to Kisumu will pass through Gusii region.
Kisii Governor James Ongwae while speaking on Tuesday said Gusii region's economy will grow rapidly.
"I want to express my happiness now that SGR line will pass through the neighbouring Nyamira County to Kisumu from Naivasha. Our people will have an opportunity to transport agricultural products to various markets to boost their earnings since SGR will be a fast means of transport," he said.
He appealed to elected Gusii leaders to take advantage of the SGR to motivate farmers in the villages to venture more into agriculture and businesses.
Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi who accompanied Ongwae also said that the SGR line will improve the economic base of Gusii region.
"It is good that as Gusii people we are testing the fruits of the handshake. Long journeys to Nairobi and Mombasa will be narrowed down to minutes once SGR started operating," said Maangi.
Kisii County Commissioner Godfrey Kigochi encouraged people to ensure the passage of SGR in the region will benefit them.
On Monday while speaking in Muhoroni, ODM party leader Raila Odinga said the SGR line will pass Nyamia-Sondu then to Kisumu.
Earlier, Bonchari MP John Oyioka said trade will improve with the use of SGR as a means of transport.
