MP Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Opondo Kaluma now wants the opposition's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to keep a close look on its governors.
Speaking on Monday, the MP who is in office on the same party's ticket termed it necessary for the bloc to check the performance of county bosses elected on its ticket.
He said that a number of the county chiefs are lazy, taking issue with his own Governor (Homa Bay) Cyprian Awiti whom he said has not been serving the county as is expected.
Kaluma claimed that Awiti has underperformed, terming his performance shameful, stressing on the need for a closer check on the group.
“The mechanism will help put ODM elected leaders on toes in implementation of development projects,” he was quoted by the Standard.
However, in a quick rejoinder, Governor Awiti dismissed the allegations.
He said that Kaluma is using his name for political mileage as he seeks to ascend to the same seat in the 2022 general polls.
The lawmaker noted that leaving things the same way they are currently will make it hard for the opposition boss Raila Odinga-led party to campaign for its candidates in 2022.
However, Kaluma is yet to declare his bid for the seat as is being claimed by Governor Awiti.
