A Jubilee MP has caused a storm after he was accused of disrespecting his party boss President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The MP, Kimani Ngunjiri of Bahati, is under fire after he met up to 500 members of his tribe at his home who were said to be Kikuyu Council of Elders and installed him as the community's spokesperson within the Rift Valley.
The move has been reprimanded as other elders said Ngunjiri disrespected President Uhuru Kenyatta, as the de facto Kikuyu spokesman, and the so-called Bahati declaration was tantamount to impeaching him.
The leaders from Gikuyu Council of Elders, Kiama Kiama, dismissed Ngunjiri's faction as impostors.
“We remind them that the Agikuyu conferred upon Kenyatta their leadership mantle on November 30, 2012, at the Bomas of Kenya and he still bears the mace of the office and responsibilities given to him,” a statement read.
"Any other move is a plot to impeach Uhuru as our spokesperson," an elder added.
A former MP from Nakuru also hit out at Ngunjiri claiming those who attended the 'declaration' were 'paid impostors'.
"You also know who are the Kikuyu Council of elders in Nakuru, did you see anyone there. Those were impostors paid to come and stage-manage a coronation," the MP said.
