Nakuru was once ranked among the cheapest urban centers to live in, something that is, however, changing over time due to economic dynamics.

However, we still have ghettos in the town where a monthly rent is cheaper than the amount of airtime you use in a month.

However, there are still places within the county where you can survive on a very low income.

Here are some of them;

1.Rhonda

Also known as Ng'ambo due to its distance from town, Rhonda is considered one of the cheapest estates in the town.

It houses a majority of the low-income earners.

Houses here are mud-walled with tin sheets. Rent here is $4 only.

It is home to Soko Mjinga market, where residents shop for clothes at Sh10.

2. Bondeni

Despite being located only several meters from the CBD, Bondeni is largely a slum and still boasts of houses built using the ancient Arabic style. Roof houses are erected using tin pieces from mikebe.

Here, life is a bit 'expensive' as rent goes for $8 dollars. This is despite the fact that these houses leak every rainy season.

The biggest portion of the estate is owned by a popular tycoon of Arabic generation.

It is known for its cheap life, generous neighbours and unity of residents, a majority of who are Muslims.

Nakuru billionaire Said Abdalla Azubedi also lives here, and just like residents he leads a humble life!

You cannot pick him out from those who did not afford a meal!

3. Kona Tatu

The estate was originally part of Bondeni but has since achieved 'full independence'.

It is now the smallest 'city' in the town.

Located right next to the Bondeni Mosque.

The estate sits on a piece of land of about an acre.

The estate is famed for its squalor life.

Drunks have made the area their home.
