The much anticipated meeting between Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga at Borabu will after all not take place, it has been established.

Earlier, the two teams had confirmed attendance at Nyansiongo Grounds in the burial of Mama Peninah Osero, mother to renowned politician Patrick Osero.

But Raila Odinga may have changed plans and instead landed directly at Kisumu where he launched removal of water hyacinth at Lake Victoria and is expected to arrive at Bondo for Jaramogi Oginga Odinga memorial.

"The party leader currently at Kisumu launching of Lake Victoria water hyacinth. The project is expected to take over 30 months," ODM party wrote on Twitter.

But the DP, currently attending funeral to renowned researcher and scholar Prof Abel Mugenda in Thogoto but is expected to land any moment at Nyansiongo Grounds.

One of the funeral organisers Sam Omosa said the DP had boarded his chopper and was his way to the funeral. Mr Osero is his close political and business partner.

"The Deputy President William Ruto is in Thogoto but has understandably boarded his chopper to Nyamira. He's arriving here in shortly," said Mr Omosa.

Ruto is on the verge of scrambling for Gusii region votes which are projected to be around 1.3 million by 2022. Friday's visit will be his 18th since 2017 elections.

Despite Raila's absence, Ruto is now likely to share podium with Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i whom he had fallen out with over lucrative tenders in the ministry.
