Have you seen the new currency notes? Well most of us haven’t seen them yet. The new notes were launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta on June 1st, 2019 during the Madaraka Day Celebrations in Narok.
They were brought to curb the emergence of fake notes that hinders the economic growth in the country.
However, even with the introduction of the new notes, there are allegations on social media that people have already come up with fake ones.
These speculations attracted the attention of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) through their Governor Patrick Njoroge who came out outlining key features of the new currency note.
In a video shared on social media by NTV Kenya, special features of the new note are clearly outlined.
To know a genuine note, you only need to feel it, look at it and also tilt it. In feeling any of these notes, you will realize that the value of the note and the name Kenya are raised.
For the visually impaired, you will feel different bars at the edge of each note. A fifty shillings note will have one bar, two, three, four and five bars for one hundred, two hundred, five hundred and one thousand consecutively.
When you hold up the note against a source of light, you will see a watermark of a perfect Lions Head, the CBK text, the value of the note and a continuous security thread line from both sides.
When you tilt the note against a source of light, you will realize the security thread line changes colour from red to green.
Additionally, a rainbow colour appears on the security thread line for the two hundred, five hundred and one thousand notes.
