Ndeti said the proposal by Kibera MP Ken Okoth should not be entertained at all.

According to Ndeti, bhang is a dangerous drug that has ruined the lives of many young people.

She said legalizing bhang will lead to an increase in crime and lawlessness among young people.

“The idea to legalize bhang is ill and should be rejected at all costs,” Ndeti said.

Ndeti addressed the press in Kathiani, Machakos County on Wednesday.

She said it is unfortunate that some elected MPs don’t have the interests of young people at heart.

“Drug abuse is a serious problem and our MPs must fight it instead of proposing suspicious bills,” Ndeti said.

Several leaders among them former NACADA boss John Mututho have opposed the controversial bill sponsored by the Kibera MP.

They argue that the MP is using the bill to get popularity ahead of 2022 polls.

Kibera MP has written to National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi seeking facilitation to prepare the bill.

Okoth argues that bhang has medicinal value hence should be legalized.

He also argues that bhang has economic value and will boost the country’s economic status if legalized.
