Once Vocal politician and former Labour cabinet secretary Samuel Kazungu Kambi has maintained a low profile months after failing to clinch Kilifi governor’s seat.
Kambi was known to fiercely defend and champion Jubilee government development agenda while waging war on opposition and critics alike.
His stint as CS was however cut short in 2016 when he was sacked by President Kenyatta over graft allegations that were dismissed by the high court later.
Kazungu first joined active politics when he was overwhelmingly elected to represent Kaloleni constituency in the 10th parliament back in 2007.
In 2013 he was nominated by Kenyatta to head the ministry of labour and social sciences before parliament approved him.
The Baraton University of eastern Africa graduate was once embroiled in a public spat with COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli with the COTU boss sensationally demanding that he respect him because “he danced with his mother during his youth years”.
During campaigns leading to the gubernatorial race last year, Mr. Kambi who vied on a KADU-Asili ticket reportedly raised Sh60 million from friends and family during a fundraising dinner.
He later held a huge rally at Malindi Stadium calling on voters to reject his main opponent the then governor, Amason Kingi for failing to develop the region and alleviate poverty.
He currently chairs the Coast Development Authority Board after appointment by President Kenyatta in April this year.
