Cliff Marube Ombeta is one of the lead lawyers representing embattled Migori Governor Okoth Obado who has been charged with the murder of Rongo University Student Sharon Otieno and her unborn baby.
Ombeta is one of the experienced and highly sought after criminal lawyers in the country.
He has represented suspects in high profile murder and other criminal cases.
Ombeta is known for his high grasp of the constitution and use of English language in arguing cases for clients in court.
In March 2015, Ombeta shed tears in a Mombasa court during a case where two brothers Baktash Akasha and Vijaygir Goswami Akasha had been charged with trafficking cocaine worth Sh6.4 billion.
Ombeta was representing the two brothers and had pleaded with the court to release them on bond or bail.
The former Director of Public Prosecution's (DPP) Keriako Tobiko had opposed release of the suspects on bail or bond terming them a flight risk.
It took four months arguing bond and bail for the suspects in court.
The court finally released the Akasha brothers on Sh30 million bail with a surety of similar amount, a ruling that saw Ombeta shed tears in the glare of the cameras.
Ombeta said that he shed tears because the court reasoned with him and granted bail to the two Akasha brothers.
The top criminal lawyer said that he had given everything in the fight for the freedom of the two brothers.
Ombeta argues that no suspect should be denied bond or bail and that the presumption of innocence until proven guilty as enshrined in the constitution must be guarded.
