Baby Samantha Pendo is among innocent Kenyans who were brutalized or killed by anti-riot police in the lakeside city during the post-2017 election skirmishes.

Speaking during the Mashujaa Day celebrations at the Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground in Kisumu on Sunday, he hailed Pendo one of the persons who lost their lives in the course of the push for democratic elections in Kenya.

"Baby Pendo and company, we honour you this day because as a young baby you did not know what we were doing but you sacrificed yourself so that you can make sure that Democratic elections are held in this nation," he said.

The county boss, in his speech, added that such persons must be accorded the honour they deserve and their sacrifices out into consideration.

"But for how long should they remain unsung? We must allow their sacrifice to pick our conscience," added the county chief.

Nyongo added that the county will as well look into the plights of over 5,000 traders whose stalls were demolished to pave way for the construction of the Kisumu port.

On matters of politics, he urged locals to put away their political differences and embrace cohesion, especially in a county that was heavily affected by the 2017 skirmishes.
