Having toured some of the most noble hospitals around the world, Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso had given in and was ready for any eventualities, reports the Standard.
Before dying on Monday, Laboso had sought medical attention in London before jetting to India, which is known to have best oncology centers in the world.
At Nairobi Hospital last week, Dr Laboso told one of the doctors to facilitate her discharge despite the fact that she was at High Dependency Unit.
“I want to go rest at home,” she had told one of her doctors on July 21 from her hospital bed in the high dependency unit (HDU).
Although she made the request, the family opposed the suggestion, arguing that she needed a rest as she recovered from chemotherapy treatment.
On Monday, hours before her death, the Communication Director Ezra Kirui gave hope to members of the public when he suggested that Dr Laboso was recovering.
"The office of the Governor would like to reassure the residents of Bomet and the general public that Her Excellency Dr Joyce Laboso is recuperating well and is still under doctor's observation
"The governor acknowledges overwhelming Goodwill messages and prayers from Kenyans as she responds well to treatment. The governor's doctors have recommended her enough rest for speedy recovery and advise on limited visitation," said the letter, signed by Director of Communications Ezra Kirui.
The former Sotik MP died aged 58. She is the third governor to die in office after Nderitu Gachagua and Wahome Gakuru, who both served as Nyeri governors.
