The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams kicked off on Tuesday morning countrywide.

According to Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdirisack Jaldesa, the exams kicked off smoothly in the county, adding that everything went as planned.

"The examination containers across the county were opened at 6:00am, thereafter distributed to the 710 examination centers.The mathematics paper started at exactly 8:30am," he said.

Addressing the press in Eldoret, Jaldesa said the government will ensure the exams are done without any security hitches.

"So far, no hitches or incidents have been reported. We have enhanced security to ensure exams are done in a conducive environment without any interference," he added.

He warned students and members of the public against engaging in exam irregularities, adding that anyone caught will be dealt with in accordance to the law.  

Jaldesa urged residents to stay at least 200 meters from schools, since examination centers are now security zones.

Uasin Gishu county has 26,043 pupils who will sit for the 2019 KCPE in 710 examination centers.

A quick spot check in various schools including; Munyaka, Eldoret Baraka Academy, Uasin Gishu, and Central primary showed that the exams kicked off smoothly.
