The church has been under fire from a section of politicians for accepting offerings from questionable politicians, over allegations of being used to launder graft money. .
But Mutua is now accusing the clergy of hypocrisy, claiming that some have been preaching against corruption but are at the same time accepting money from politicians.
“It is hypocritical to call for prayers against corruption whereas some priests and pastors are receiving questionable money from politicians. We have invited corruption to our altars and pulpits. God is surely not pleased," he said.
He stressed on the need for the church to help in fighting the graft menace by leading the way in rejecting money from the group.
According to the Maendeleo Chapchap party leader, the preachers need to stop praying for questionable politicians and be in the front line in preaching matters integrity.
"Imagine if a priest or pastor told a corrupt politician, “Thanks but we will not accept your contribution". Now that refusal of questionable money would be action against corruption and together with prayer, would go a long way in fighting corruption and enlightening congregations," he opined.
Among those questioning the offerings is National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadi, who has proposed a bill to regulate the same.
