A furious Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i stormed offices of Registrar of Persons in Narok County on Thursday in a trip that caught government officials unawares.
Buoyed by area administration team, Matiang'i demanded to know why the officers had the bulk of the documents despite serving few people per day in a region occupied by nomads.
"Why do we have all these documents piled all over here? Why do you keep telling Kenyans to come tomorrow yet this is something you can do in a few days? I have given you just a week to clear the mess or go home," Matiang'i is heard saying.
Throughout this time, the officers in charge were seen scared as the angry minister scolded them in presence of top administration team led by County Commissioner George Natembeya.
Later, Matiang'i held a meeting at Narok stadium where he cautioned the community against frustrating efforts of regional officers in the fight against FGM.
"We will deal with anyone trying to intimidate National Government Administrators in Narok County while they are on duty. Under the leadership of the County Commissioner, they must apprehend anyone practising FGM and facilitate prosecution and successful conviction without fear," he wrote on Twitter.
Also, Matiang'i gave local administration one-week ultimatum to ensure all children who sat for KCPE in 2015 are registered to various secondary schools.
The powerful minister was elevated by President Uhuru Kenyatta to chair the cabinet committee in charge of development and monitoring of government projects, making him an equivalent of Prime Minister.
