Lung'atso was buried at the church headquarters in Jebrok, Vihiga county, in an event that was attended by faithful and also a contingent of police officers.

This comes after a series of leadership wrangles in the church, one of which saw property destroyed and 3 clerics left dead after a fight broke up at her compound, in 2015.

This resulted from a clash, after she proposed Bishop Evans Chandiva to take over the leadership of the church from her son Archbishop John Mweresa.

This was opposed by Mweresa who considered Chandiva a church 'outsider', leading to years of bad blood and enmity between mother and son.

On Sunday, uniformed and civilian police officers patrolled the area surrounding the burial site, an event that was however skipped by Mweresa, reports the Nation.

Mweresa had even moved to court to block his mother from being hurried in Tue family land which houses the church headquarters, a request that was turned down by the court.

However, the Hamisi Magistrates Court on Thursday gave a nod to the church members to proceed and bury the deceased.
