A section of football fans in Eldoret has praised Tottenham Hotspurs coach Mauricio Pochettino for giving Kenyan captain Victor Wanyama more playing time.
Wanyama played all the 90 minutes in Wednesday night’s 4-3 loss to Manchester City at Etihad though his team progressed on an away goal rule.
He will now play in his first ever champions league semi-final against Ajax Amsterdam.
“Victor is a brilliant midfielder and as you saw, yesternight he was so instrumental in the Tottenham midfield, so we hope he will be getting more playing time in future games”, said James Kiptoo, one of the few ardent Tottenham supporters based in Eldoret town.
Wanyama has missed a number of games this season due to an arm string injury but he now seems to have recovered.
He came on as a substitute against Huddersfield on Saturday and scored.
“Yesterday he played nicely in the midfield; I know he is capable of doing much better, added Hillary Maiyo."
That shows that the coach now trusts our captain, we thank him and we want Victor to play all the remaining games of the season so as to be in good form prior to the African cup of nations competition in Cairo in June”, said John Waudo, a football fan on Eldoret,s Kenyatta street.
Wanyama is expected to lead Kenya’s Harambee Stars in the African cup of nations in Cairo in June.
“His form is just amazing, we really acknowledge his efforts”, added Peter Ouma.
Another fan, Immaculate Akinyi wants upcoming footballers to benchmark Wanyama for them to go places.
She was happy with his performance. Kenya has been grouped in group c alongside neighbours Tanzania, Algeria and Senegal.
