Deputy President William Ruto says he can account for all his money despite persistent links to scandals by people he terms as 'enemies of development'.
For months now, Ruto has been struggling to clear his name in various scams, with fellow politicians accusing him of being the 'priest of corruption' in the country.
At an interview on Wednesday in Citizen TV, Ruto said all his wealth was acquired through genuine means contrary to 'media narratives' that link him to grand graft.
"When I was working with Raila, I was not corrupt. When I switched positions to Uhuru's side, am now the priest of corruption. In fact, in the first term, they used to say both Uhuru and I were corrupt. Nowadays Uhuru is clean," Ruto argued.
"I can account for all my money. I have never taken anything illegally. It's as a result of hard work. Sometimes you hear media saying I owe 680 Hotel and many more which is not true."
Dr Ruto defended his role in the acquisition of Weston Hotel land, wondering why authorities were much concerned on a developed government land instead of pursuing those that are yet to be developed.
"Weston Hotel is just a small piece of land. It's developed no matter the issues surrounding its acquisition. There are people who own large tracks of land around Upper Hill which is idle. Government policy states that if public land is not developed in 2 years, it's repossessed," he added.
The DP declined reports that he was undermining the DCI, adding that corruption should be fought on the basis of truth and not media narratives and propaganda.
