The commission wants the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Ethics and Anti-Corruption  Commission (EACC) and Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to probe claims that the Garissa Governor allegedly forged his academic papers.

In a statement on Tuesday, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati dismissed claims that the commission cleared Korane to contest for the governor seat with fake papers.

Chebukati says that the claims by city lawyer Charles Kanjama are false and misleading.

The IEBC boss said that the commission cleared Korane to contest based on the nomination certificate he presented from Jubilee Party.

He added that the commission okayed Korane's candidature basing on the wealth declaration forms he presented to the EACC.

There are allegations that Governor Korane forged a Masters Degree certificate he claims to have been awarded by the University of Nairobi.

The  UoN has since denied claims of awarding the governor a Masters degree.

Last Saturday, Korane refuted claims of forging a Masters degree.

The Jubilee governor said that he never presented to IEBC any Masters degree for clearance.

Detectives have linked the issue of Korane's certificates to the attempted murder of former Garissa Finance Executive Committee Member Idriss Mukhtar.

Mukhtar was shot and injured by hired assassins three weeks ago and is fighting for his life in hospital.

It is alleged that he (Mukhtar) was getting ready to challenge Korane's academic qualifications in court.

Governor Korane has since been questioned on the  CEC's attempted murder.
