A middle aged man is currently being held by police officers in Borabu, Nyamira County after he clobbered his wife.
The arrest was made on Tuesday evening.
Locals claimed that Brian Ombui has been beating his wife, Elmelda Monyangi for the last 3 years.
"Ombui has been too violent to his wife. As neighbors we heard Monyangi crying for help and we rushed to the homestead to rescue her," said Timothy Onchera.
Mr. Onchera said they apprehended the suspect, beat him up before they surrendered him to police.
"We caned him thoroughly so that he can feel the same pain his wife has been undergoing. We later surrendered him to police for court processing," he added.
Area police boss Michael Lesmum said the suspect will be arraigned in court anytime from today to be charged over assault.
"Violence against women will not be condoned. Ombui will be charged in court to serve as an example to other men who are used to beating their wives," he stated.
He called on Nyumba Kumi officials and local chiefs to be vigilant to ensure men beating wives are brought to book.
