A man has allegedly killed himself in Butula, Busia county, after disagreeing with his wife about a loan he intended to acquire from a lender.

The man Collins Odongo is said to have taken his life after attacking his wife Irene Akinyi and her two siblings after she objected his plans to take an Sh50,000 loan.

Akinyi who was rushed to the Busia County Referral Hospital was quoted by Standard saying that she found herself on the receiving end after rejecting the proposal.

Speaking from her hospital bed on Thursday, she said that she rejected her husband's plans on grounds that repaying the loan would be a problem.

The late husband wanted to take the loan from a shylock to buy a motorbike, leading to an argument on Monday, after which she left her matrimonial home and went back to her ancestral home after the man threatened to kill her.

However, the man reportedly followed her to Elwanda Village and attacked her and her sister and younger brother in the wee hours of Wednesday.

He then reportedly went back to his home in Mundasia village where he took his own life.
