A woman is nursing serious injuries following the attack from her husband on Thursday at Daraja Mbili market in Kisii County.
Veronica Kwamboka, a tomato vendor was attacked by her husband, Jackson Ondoro, on claims that she accepted Sh100 from her ex-boyfriends.
“My husband attacked me with slaps, kicks, and blows after my ex-boyfriend bought tomatoes from me and left behind his Sh100 with me. I was with my husband when my ex-boyfriend came to buy the tomatoes,” she said.
Kwamboka said her husband is jealous and he beat her up whenever he finds her greeting or talking to any man.
Traders who witnessed the attack said the man is over jealous and he keeps on following his wife from market to market.
“Ondoro is too jealous because he is often on his wife’s neck. He wants to know who buys from his wife. I was shocked to see him beating his wife in public just because a customer left Sh100 for his wife to buy lunch,” said Nyarangi Morira.
Mrs Morira said it took the intervention of county askaris who were patrolling at the market to stop the man from beating up his wife.
John Aramba, county askaris warned men against beating their wives saying the law will not spare them.
"We rescued the woman from the beating. Men should stop fighting their wives otherwise, the law will not spare them,” he said.
