Julius Mwangi, father to Monica Kimani's murder suspect Joseph Irungu, is reportedly devastated by the reports linking his son to the gruesome murder, reports the Standard.
Through a friend who spoke in confidence, the old man is said to be in shock following claims that his son could have executed the murder that has attracted publicity in Kenyan media.
“Mr Irungu still can’t believe that his son committed murder. He is also concerned about his wife (Joseph’s mother), the news hit her hardest,” said the friend who did not want to be named because he has not been appointed to speak on behalf of the family.
According to the source, Mr. Mwangi and his wife, who stay at Lanet estate in Nakuru, did not show up at the church on Sunday.
He retired from county government in 2016 before retreating to Lanet where he stays with his family.
Efforts to reach him on phone were futile after he introduced himself to Standard reporters before hunging up. He didn't not reply to texts either.
His son, Mr. Irungu, is still locked at Muthaiga awaiting detectives to conclude their investigations over the murder.
This comes after Justus Gituku, the Principal Magistrate, granted detectives permission to detail TV anchor Jacque Maribe, who has also been dragged to the matter for 11 more days.
Detectives insist that Ms. Maribe was with her fiance, Irungu when Monica was killed at her Kilimani apartments in September.
