Kenyans online have mixed reactions following Saturday’s drama during the Madaraka Day celebrations in Nairobi.
This is after Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris walked out of the event after she was publicly bashed by Governor Mike Sonko.
Passaris who was first to speak had claimed that Sonko was dodging her calls adding that the Governor has been sidelining other leaders in the running of the county affairs.
Sonko in response said he is very busy and he can’t answer her phone calls during meetings but said he would answer her calls when he is free.
“The woman rep has complained that I don't receive her phone calls. I respect you as the woman rep but if I'm in a meeting like this one, I can't receive calls because I don't have it on me,” said Sonko in a video shared by NTV Kenya.
Passaris decide to leave the celebrations at Pumwani Secondary School when Sonko told Passaris that he is not her husband to receive her calls at any time.
“I am not your husband that I should answer your calls anytime you want. We should respect each other. Even President Uhuru Kenyatta does not respond to my calls every time I call him,” added Sonko.
Kenyans online were not pleased by Governor Sonko’s statement saying he should respect other leaders now that he has been elected into office.
Others said it was Passaris who started the attack on Sonko and should not play the victim when the table turns.
