Residents of Getiese area in Nyamira county are mourning the death of a 40-year-old woman who died in hospital after she was stabbed by unknown people.
Vane Kerubo Onsongo was returning to her home at 7 pm on Sunday when she was stabbed on the neck.
Nyamira county commissioner Amos Mariba confirmed the incident saying the deceased was rushed to Nyamira county hospital for treatment but, she was pronounced dead on arrival.
"Vane met her death as she was going to her home. Unknown people who were hiding in a bush at the roadside stabbed her on the neck living her for dead and fled," he said.
He said the killers didn't steal anything from Vane.
The commissioner noted that the killers took advantage of the darkness to stab the innocent woman.
Mr Mariba said good Samaritans rushed the victim to the hospital after they found her bleeding heavily.
"She was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital because she had lost a lot of blood. Her body was taken to the hospital morgue," he added.
He assured that the probe has commenced establishing the motive behind the brutal killing.
