Uasin Gishu Statistical officer, Munene Riungu has spoken out after protests by enumerators over delayed payment following the conclusion of the census held in August.
According to Riungu, the delay in payment is because the enumerators gave wrong information.
“It has been a long process in paying the enumerators because there are those who gave us wrong account numbers, KRA PIN and ID numbers which has taken us a long time to rectify,” said the Uasin Gishu Statistical officer.
Riungu who spoke to the press in his office on Tuesday said the payments are only done in Nairobi and the County office was only mandated to prepare the list.
“Our list has already been taken to Nairobi and is being processed and we believe all those who worked during the census will be paid soon,” added Riungu.
This comes after a section of Uasin Gishu County census enumerators on Tuesday held a peaceful demonstration in Eldoret town protesting delayed payment.
He, however, refuted claims by the enumerators that he has opened a fixed account where he has bank the enumerators' money for it to earn interest terming it a rumour.
Riungu further urged the enumerators to be patient asking them to cease holding demonstrations in Eldoret.
