Residents of Ikonge in Nyamira County were on Tuesday left in a rude shock after a man was killed in broad daylight over debt.
Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba noted that the deceased identified only as Eric, an employee of Women Finance Trust Bank approached the killer named Mayaka and asked him to repay the loan he had borrowed from the bank.
"A heated argument ensued between them prompting Mayaka to pick a panga that he used to slash the deceased," Mariba noted.
The commissioner said efforts by members of the public to rescue the deceased did not yield any fruits since the killer did not want to listen.
"The assailant fled from the scene into the nearby thicket after committing the act fearing for his life after members of the public attempted to attack him. The deceased died at the scene of the crime," the commissioner said.
The county security boss warned members of the public against taking the law into their hands to kill one another saying the law will not spare offenders.
Search for the killer has commenced while the body of the deceased was moved to Nyamira hospital morgue.
