Kisii Police Commander Martin Kibet has warned residents against engaging in fights over land inheritance.
The police boss made the remarks in Kisii Town on Thursday while responding to the brutal murder of Robinson Kenyanya in Iringi village, South Mugirango Constituency.
Kenyanya is reported to have been killed by his family members following a land dispute.
Kibet assured residents in the area that Kenyanya’s killers will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
“I wish to confirm that fights related to land inheritance will not be condoned anymore. Local chiefs across the county with the help of Nyumba Kumi officials should work around the clock to ensure any danger does not arise in land dispute case,” said Kibet.
Kibet noted that police officers have arrested three people suspected of killing Kenyanya and burying him in a pit latrine.
He called on parents to ensure subdivision of land among their children is done peacefully for the sake of curbing murder cases related to land inheritance.
The police boss argued that in Kenyanya's case, the family members could have sat down and solved the dispute amicably.
