Police on Monday evening impounded two lorries reportedly ferrying smuggled ethanol into the country from Uganda.
Accord to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the lorries were impounded at Kamandura area Kiambu, by detectives from Tigoni.
The DCI further noted that two suspects were arrested, and a hunt has been launch for the other suspects.
“Over 8,900l of ethanol were last night impounded from two lorries; a canter and trailer at Kamandura area, Kiambu County by Tigoni-based detectives, and two suspects (both drivers); 45-yr-old Edward Ngure and 38-yr-old Duncan Mutuma arrested. Ethanol suspectedly smuggled from Uganda,” DCI said in a tweet.
The investigative agency said the operation was launched following a tip from the members of the public, adding that the arrested suspects will soon be arraigned in court.
“Acting on a tip-off from the public, detectives located the trailer registration number UAX 905Y offloading 42 drums of ethanol to the Isuzu Canter (KCR 573K) at the said area. Both motor vehicles detained and suspects in custody pending arraignment,” DCI added.
