The deceased is said to have drowned in the waters at Kyeleni in Matungulu Sub County on Friday.

Kyeleni chief, Dominic Musau, said the man drowned when he attempted to cross the river using a boat on the fateful day.

Musau said the deceased was headed to Thika from Kisekini in Kyeleni during the incident.

"The man was crossing the river using a boat from Kisekini to the sides of Thika before his boat overturned due to water waves," Musau said.

Musau spoke to this writer in Yatta on Sunday.

He said the efforts of divers who relentlessly searched for the body bore fruits after a two-day search.

The body was removed to Ol-donyo Sabuk Hospital mortuary.

Musau warned the residents who have no experience in swimming against crossing rivers especially when they are filled with water.

"Don't attempt to cross a river if you can't swim, the outcome might be fatal," he said.

However, the residents have urged the government to construct a bridge in the area stating that many people have lost their lives in the same spot.

"This is in a bid to ensure safe crossing by residents even when the waters are full," Musau concluded.
