John Kagema Mwangi, the former CEO of Equity Bank has died.
He reportedly died at a Nairobi hospital on Wednesday evening.
The late Mwangi was also a business magnet in Naivasha where he ran Enashipai Spa & Resort.
Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui said he had learned of the death with shock.
“It is with profound shock and sadness that we have learnt of the demise of Mr John Kagema Mwangi of Enashipai Resort & Spa located in Naivasha. As a leafing indigenous investor in the hospitality industry, he was instrumental in the elevation of Naivasha as a leading destination for business conference and leisure,” Kinyanjui said.
Kinyanjui added that the business mogul had left a mark in Nakuru County.
“We join family and friends in mourning the demise of a great Kenyan, who has left a mark in Nakuru County and Kenya at large. May the almighty God give peace and comfort to the family,” the county boss added.
Mwangi joined Equity Building Society in 1986 and under his leadership transformed it into Equity Bank. With him as the CEO, James Mwangi (now CEO Equity Group Holdings) became the finance director.
