The National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale has brought up a debate in which he wants the Head of State to be empowered by law to sack, redeploy and transfer the Deputy Inspector Generals of Police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Speaking on Wednesday at Parliament during the morning session in which a special motion for the approval of the nominee as the Inspector General of Police was before the house, Duale appreciated the nominee for beating all odds and be cleared by the house committee on Administration and National Security.
However, Duale said he wants to be the first majority leader to have empowered the President and he will table a motion over the same.
"I want to go in history to be the first majority leader who supported and making sure the President has the powers to sack, redeploy and transfer the two DIGs and the DCI," he said on the live broadcast by KBC
He added that the Presidente is the highest authority and protector of this nation.
"You cannot be the Commander in Chief of the defence forces and security forces and then a committee sitting somewhere in form of civilians are the ones doing the recruitment," he retorted.
Duale's remarks were objected by Homa Bay MP Peter Kaluma, stating that the police is a service and not a force but the majority leader was quick to quash him and lecture him on other commands of the Head of State.
"Apart from being the Commander in Chief of the defence forces, he is the Chair of the National Security Advisory Council the highest body where even the IG sits," he reiterated.
