Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has issued a stern warning to county askaris who allegedly bribe and extort money from city dwellers and business people.
The Governor says that he will immediately interdict any 'askari' found to be soliciting any form of bribes from city businessmen.
The Nairobi Governor says that he has been receiving complaints from residents that some top 'askaris' are soliciting and demanding for bribes from city dwellers and business people.
“I am putting city 'askaris' on notice and those who will be found soliciting and taking bribes will face the wrath of the law, and have themselves to blame,” he said on Monday.
The Nairobi Governor said that he will not sit and watch some rogue 'askaris' taint the image of the county.
Governor Sonko also warned city askari’s who allegedly harass city dwellers.
He said that some 'askaris' have the habit of arresting and charging innocent city dwellers in city courts.
Governor Sonko asked Nairobians to directly report to him any incident of harassment by city 'askaris.'
