The late senator's son Will Okello and his nephew Okundi Okello have all declared their intentions that they deserve to take on the mantle left by the former radio journalist.

According to Okello's Kanyimach clan, after extensive consultation, they have thrown their weight behind Okundi.

"Our choice is not out of the blue. We have deliberated and settled for Okundi so we ask the ODM party to respect the decision of our clan and accept the man we have picked," said Mr Samson Mumbo, Kanyimach clan elder.

However, Willis has refused to throw in the towel saying he is the first son of the family and the position is deservingly his.

"I am Okello's first-born son, and should there be anything as a family endorsement then let other people not take advantage of this situation to coerce my family to serve their personal greed," said Willis.

A more interesting report is that the late senator's two wives are divided on who should succeed their husband, one is supporting Okundi while the other one is in Willis's camp.
