The accident happened along Matuu-Mwingi highway near Kanyoonyoo trading centre in Matuu ward, Yatta sub-county in Machakos.

According to an eye witness, the saloon car was trying to overtake a lorry when it rammed into an oncoming pickup.

"They saloon car overtook blindly and that's why they collided head-on. The saloon car driver did not look around well to make sure the road was clear" Patrick Muli who witnessed the accidental told Hivisasa.

Confirming the incident, Yatta police boss Njoroge Karanja urged road users to stop speeding and overtake only when the road is clear to avoid such accidents.

"It's very wrong to speeding especially when rains are this heavy. Again don't overtake blindly. Check first if the road is clear," he Said.

He emphasised that some accidents are avoidable if road users are cautious.

The two vehicles were towed to Yatta Police Station. The three who were injured were rushed to Matuu Level Four Hospital for treatment where they are recovering.
