A section of Nairobi County Assembly Members (MCAs) claim that Governor Sonko is reluctant to appoint his deputy nine moths after former deputy governor Polycarp Igathe resigned.

According to sources, 100 out of 122 MCAs have signed a petition that could see Governor Sonko sent packing.

Sources say that the MCAs are set to meet and discuss Sonko’s conduct before presenting the motion to the floor of the House once they return from recess.

The MCAs argue that Sonko’s failure to appoint his deputy is hurting service delivery in the city.

“We are going to meet and discuss pertinent issues affecting the city county government before moving forward," Peter Imwatok, the Assembly minority whip said on Thursday.

The Makongeni MCA claimed that key services in the city have halted because the deputy governor position is vacant.

“We don’t know why Governor Sonko does not want to appoint his deputy but we will force him to do it,” he said.

Imwatok, a critic of Governor Sonko, said that Nairobians deserve better services.

Last month, Sonko shortlisted four women among them former Starehe MP Margret Wanjiru for the deputy governor’s position.
